Press Release: Independents Day

Press Release
21st April 2005

Neil Herron ppc (Independent) Sunderland North
Independents Day
North East Independent Parliamentary Candidate to Address North East Independent Councillors Group in Durham
Neil Herron, ppc (Independent) Sunderland North is to address a meeting of the North East Independent Councillors Group on Monday 25th April 2005 at County Hall in Durham at 12.30pm.
Councillor Ron Dickie is the Group's Secretary and the members cover the whole region stretching from Berwick to Middleton in Teesdale.
Leading 'No' Campaigner and Metric Martyr is to speak on a wide range of issues but will concentrate on the power of an independent voice, breaking the public's disillusionment with politics and the exposure of the unelected assemblies legal status which could potentially compromise councillors across the region.
Neil Herron states, " It is becoming increasingly apparent that the public is growing more disillusioned with party politics by the day. The only thing that makes politics more interesting is party politicians in fear of their seat. The public are waking up to the fact that they can be represented more vocally by high profile independents. The case of Ray Mallon in Middlesbrough is a prime example. We must remember that democracy is not a spectator sport. What we need is the people realising the power that they have... we are fast approaching Independents Day.."

Mallon was a Labour stooge. Herron is a Labour patsy.

Same thing really.

Same result.

Good Luck with the Campaign Neil,
it looks like you have them rattled. If people want change they have to vote for it. New Labour and the main parties are nothing to do with Democracy, if they were they would not all be sitting in an un-elected and un wanted regional assembly.
Happy St George's Day.

If Herron was more than just an ego trip I would still support him. However, standing in an election he can't win (but is more cheap publicity for him) is not the way to change things. The only possible result is an increased Labour majority (when it should be going down) and a split opposition vote. Herron fell out with UKIP, rebuffed Kilroy and made an arse of himself during the European elections (outside of Sunderland). He cried tears when he never got the government cash during the referendum and still wants to be the elected Mayor of Sunderland and run the No campaign during the European Constitution! No chance!

The ego has landed (with a bump)!

people are entitled to offer an alternative pal and knackers to whoevers nose is put out of joint.
The UKIP along with the Tories, could have stopped NL in their tracks years ago by calling for an English Parliament, but they carried on pretending they're talking for the whole of the UK when they are not.The UKIP and Tories are only elected by people in ENGLAND,yet they all toed the NL line and denied proper representation for English people at Westminster and in the EU.
There is no guarantee a tory government would be any more sympathetic than New Labour, they have their european masters to think of too. So sod off with your carping, more people of Independant
thought are needed in politics.

Who said I was a Tory!

Why didn't Herron follow the example of the UKIPer who is standing in over half a dozen seats in the North West? Herron could have repeated his effort in the European elections, although it would have cost him more than £5000. Still, what is a few thousand quid for an ego that size?

Nice to see anonymous remaining anonymous. Same with all who wish to have opinions but haven't got the balls to say it to the face.
For the record...
...I am not a Labour patsy.
...the intention of creating headlines and profile is to keep the Metric Martyrs at the forefront, and the intention to remain independent was the reason why I didn't stand for UKIP. The decision had been made shortly before Steven Thoburn died and before the Kilroy factor had thrust UKIP into the spotlight.
...the Designation decision for the referendum was a corrupt decision. It was not 'my' campaign but a People's Campaign with cross and non-party support. The truth about the designation decision will come out. As for sour grapes...try respedct for the electorate. The UKIP supported NESNO Campaign never even had the courtesy to put he result on their website.
I really like the 'ego' trip bit.As we still continue to work behind the scenes tirelessly exposing the unelected assemblies...no profile, rewards or medals there...and continue to undermine the Metric Martyr's decision and continue to challenge the MEP's...not just me but everybody who works with us a follows what we do.
Herron fell out with UKIP?
Are you aware that even after the European Elections UKIP asked Herron to be their candidate in Hartlepool by-election? (By the way...we got the European Election deposit back. Do your homework!)
Are you aware that UKIP have asked for briefings on regional assemblies?
Are you aware that Herron has assisted and advised some UKIP Candidates? Of course not. Wouldn't fit your incorrect assumptions, would it?
As for increasing the Labour majority in Sunderland North...we will see what happens. By standing we have managed to force the incumbent Labour MP Bill Etherington onto a public platform for the first time EVER!
Your best point 'anonymous' is that I am standing in an election I can't win...what therefore are UKIP doing?

Neil, once the opposition resort to personal insults, they've lost the argument..

UKIP obviously didn't here you describe them as "useless" then.

Etherington always appears on a public platform at election time, he just likes to pick who will be there.

Patsy!

Nice to see Etherington has agreed to attend a Hustings. The headmaster of the school chosen as the venue has stipulated that all candidates must be invited...they have been.
I understand that the Labour MP has refused to share a platform with BNP previously. I believe the best way of destroying any legitimate party's arguments (Labour, Lib Dem, Conservative or BNP) is with full and open debate and reasoned argument. Let us hope that this time Bill Etherington doesn't take the coward's way out.
