Whoops they did it again! BBC use Labour Politician as 'Independent' Expert

Radio 4 Today Programme
10th September 2004

In a broadcast today at 8.10am the subject was 'Regional Assemblies' and Prescott was even more aggressive and bombastic than normal...the sign of a desperate man.

All alone spouting half-truths and downright deception about what is on offer with regional government.

A man all alone.

A man, who had hoped for triplets, three 'brainchildren,' is now left desperately clinging to his only surviving 'brainchild.' The North East, he believes, are foolish enough to be duped. However, his 'baby' looks like it is not destined to leave the pram. A man whose 'brainchild' is avoided by the rest of the Labour Party as though it not only has political mumps, which would make them politically sterile, but also every other highly contagious disease going.

Seems like there is no medicine that will cure this brainchild's affliction, and there is certainly no vaccination or medicine being offered from the Cabinet.

The desperation to deceive the public was exaggerated by bringing on Dr. Simon Henig, Senior Lecturer in Politics at Sunderland University. He made reference to recent 'polls' saying 40% were in favour of an elected assembly.
What he didn't point out that the latest poll showing this was conducted by the Yes Campaign. Previously, the poll that had been conducted by the Journal with a biased lead in to the question (because only 3 in 10 knew there was a referendum taking place).

After a call from the North East No Campaign, while Prescott was in mid-rant, John Humphreys was forced to point out that Dr. Simon Henig was also Deputy Labour Leader for Chester-Le-Street Council !

This is the second time BBC ! Radio Newcastle fell into the same trap.

It is about time that the BBC actually did an in-depth appraisal for their listeners and viewers as to what is being offered by Prescott, before we end up with the biggest political con trick duping an unsuspecting North East public.
