North East Assembly's Notice to Quit

Notice to Quit

This Notice is today, Friday 4th November 2005, served upon:
North East Assembly
The Guildhall
Newcastle Upon Tyne NE1 3AF
by a No Campaign delegation:
Judith Wallace (Chairman)
Colin Moran (Strategy Director)
Neil Herron (Campaign Director)

for, and on behalf of, the 696,519 voters who rejected the
concept of a regional assembly on 4th November 2004.

The Notice states that:
“You were made aware in last year’s referendum that 78% of the North East public did not want a regional assembly and yet 12 months later you are still here creating an unnecessary tax burden on the North East public, the majority of whom are totally unaware that they have been the victims of a political con trick.
Your services are not required nor have they ever been requested and we wish you to:
(i) Vacate the Guildhall building to allow the people of Newcastle to receive a fair commercial rent,
(ii) Vacate the North East and remove your unwanted interference from local affairs.
(iii) Return any powers back to the local authorities who are elected and democratically accountable,
(iv)Return any councillors back to their place of elected responsibility. We do not need self-important ‘appointed’ individuals behaving like regional political peacocks."

Should you wish to continue your arrogant and contemptuous affront to the democratic process we will continue to expose your organisation and your members for perpetuating this continued fraud on the electorate.
