It’s not just hospital staff, as it seems all major employers be they council, university or healthcare treat employee parking as if it’s some sort of privilege, of course it’s ‘optional’ to have to get to work is it?
I’m personally sick and tired of the excuse ‘employees should seek alternative transport’ what like a pathetic maybe they run maybe they don’t public transport system that 9 times out of 10 doesn’t actual go anywhere near your destination, or cycling, a scheme piloted in the south east. i.e. the same part of the country if I’m not mistaken is as flat as Mel C’s chest and if memory serves doesn’t see much rain, exactly like the north east which has more humps than a MEP who’s been asked to account for their personal expenses.

If it’s not bad enough that junior doctors are expected to work all the hours god sends they have to commit even more of their OWN time to travel! Shift the burden of commuting from the employee to the employer and maybe just maybe we’ll start seeing employers actually looking towards employing ‘local’ staff, we’ll see real incentive towards developing a decent transport infrastructure when business want change not to mention the implications a reduction in commuting would have on so called carbon emissions.
