Sunderland Council Press Statement ... Imperial Measures

The e-mail below was the press statement issued by Sunderland following the exposure of the fact that they were using imperial measures in their Traffic Regulation Orders thereby breaching the same Metrication Directive as the Metric Martyrs.
It was sent to Captain Green by Council Official Kevin Douglas.
It is quite clear from guidance issued by the DTI that imperial measures are not to be used for official documents ... but yet again, Sunderland has one law for the public and one law for themselves.

Captain Green - information as requested.

Press response.

Regards - Kevin Douglas

Mr Herron's claims that certain areas of the city are being targeted are completely untrue.

The Consolidation Orders made in 2003 were precisely that. They did not introduce fresh restrictions but consolidated many traffic regulation orders - some of which were made many years earlier and referred to imperial measurements.

The road markings are consistent with the Order. Therefore the motorist would not be misled as to the nature of the restrictions imposed.

As in the case of all penalty charge notices motorists who believe their penalty charge notice should not be enforced can take it to appeal should they chose to do so.

As we have made clear, over the last 18 months all aspects of the decriminalised parking enforcement regime have been reviewed openly and transparently and this process continues.

Indeed, due to the nature of parking this process of checking and monitoring will continue.

Since "no assurances are given as to the authority of the sender", what is the point of this email?
