Someone Else Read the Bill !

Sunderland Echo Letters

Voice for region
FOLLOWING the Regional Assemblies Draft Bill announced recently I find it very difficult to understand how Neil Herron can describe the proposed regional assembly as “fake” devolution.

He obviously didn’t read the Bill at all.

An assembly would have real scope to influence business through involvement in skills and training issues, via its increasing role in transport and through links with small businesses.

Numerous business leaders, such as Jaap Kroese and Alan Donnelly (to name only a few), have come out in favour of the Assembly.Indeed, the draft bill represents a strengthening of powers since the publication of the Government’s white paper in 2002.

The assembly would enable the North East to be able to respond quicker to economic changes specific to our region and give it a greater voice to encourage investment and fight our corner. AW Shorey, Washington
