Desperate Tactics...

The following letter came after the one from myself which exposed the fact that NCP and Sunderland Council were issuing tickets they knew to be illegal.
A number of points to note are that the letter writer was allowed anonymity despite the serious accusations of incitement and other defamatory comments;
also the fact that the Parking Attendant who suffered the injury was 24 years old. The letter writer claims to be the same age and a former PA. A telephone call from an insider at NCP confirms that there has been no other PA of this age.
Since DPE began in 2003 the Sunderland Echo published many articles about NCP and their PAs activities ... long before we began exposing their illegal actions.
Should anyone wish to comment about the points raised in this letter then the address is:-
echo.letters@northeast-press.co.uk
Let us hope that Sunderland Echo has conducted the necessary checks on anonymous letter writers to establish their true identity before publishing such highly contentious, libellous and inaccurate comment.
Debate is one thing, criticism is another, but to allow the following letter to be published (the second anonymous personal attack in just over a week) seems that a pattern is emerging.

It also needs to be noted that a former PA actually went to the Sunderland Echo over a year ago with the facts regarding the Taxi Ranks and Blue Badge Holders, as well as the fact that PCNs had been issued illegally. The Sunderland Echo never ran the story until we broke it in the Newcastle Journal on August 13th 2005. Draw your own conclusions as to why the story, which would have taken one telephone call to Sunderland City Council to establish provenance, was never ran.

'Quest' is to blame
FOLLOWING your report about the attendant in Sunderland who was viciously stabbed by a hypodermic needle in Sunderland for doing her job, I'm wondering if the uproar caused by Metric Martyrs and their "quest" to abolish parking charges may have indirectly caused this shocking action?
Their blogspots on the internet regarding Sunderland parking fines and any other council's parking charges they can get there grubby mits on, are unbelievably biased to what is really going on.
They give people false hopes that if they challenge a ticket, even if they know they were in the wrong, they won't have to pay the charge.
Once a parking attendant myself (and the same age as the attendant in the story), I really do feel for the lady who was stabbed and cannot help but feel that people like the Metric Martyrs are causing animosity against people in parking and the public.
Parking attendants not only go round issuing tickets, but are members of the community who are usually very helpful to visitors to a city, giving directions to places, are a visible presence who can help reduce crimes such as car and house break-ins, tax disc evasions and so on.This type of work is all part of the day-to-day unmentioned duties of a parking attendant, yet everyone is so set against them!
Why?
Because no-one likes getting a parking ticket. But at the end of the day, parking charges are introduced for a reason, and without them everyone would be complaining that they couldn't park properly, because of the people who disregard parking with consideration.
I would have entered my comment on the Internet blogspots, however, as some people have the same views as me, they have now stopped blogspot readers from entering comments of their own, which were edited and removed at the Metric Martyrs discretion anyway!
Metric Martyrs, give it up, and stop endangering the lives of the parking attendants, not just in Sunderland, but in our region!

Lickspittle: "...attendant in Sunderland who was viciously stabbed by a hypodermic needle in Sunderland for doing her job,"

Firstly, stupid idiot, it wasn't the hypodermic needle that viciously stabbed the parking attendant. It was the assailant.

The stabbing was a outrageious response to a parking ticket!
One does wonder where the police were at the time?

In any case recieving a parking ticket from somebody who deliberately refuses to discuss the issue, actually has no room for discression and probably has an incentive to issue as many parking tickets as possible. Can be a highly provocative circumstance to find oneself in.

To hear that due to the incompetance of the local authority, these tickets may even be illegal, yet you are still going to get one...

Lickspittle: "I'm wondering if the uproar caused by Metric Martyrs and their "quest" to abolish parking charges may have indirectly caused this shocking action?"

Short answer, No!

The real responsibility for this assault lies with the local authority, they are doggedly persuing their fund raising activities despite the fact that there is severe doubts about the legality of the whole parking ticket regieme. If the council had any honesty or concern for their employees, it would seek to resolve the issue forthwith.

Lickspittle: "...regarding Sunderland parking fines and any other council's parking charges they can get there grubby mits on, are unbelievably biased to what is really going on."

That sentance alone shows unbelievable bias. 'grubby mits'?

Lickspittle: "They give people false hopes..."

If the parking regieme in Sunderland is illegal, then they are not false hopes, they are legal grounds to object to the fine/penalty/charge, whatever the weaselly council chooses to call their extortion today.

Lickspittle: "...that if they challenge a ticket, even if they know they were in the wrong, they won't have to pay the charge."

So if the defendant is in the wrong, they have no right to challange the penalty. If the council is in the wrong, we must all pretend it is really in the right?

Lickspittle: "Once a parking attendant myself..."

Exposes his bias.

Lickspittle: "...(and the same age as the attendant in the story), I really do feel for the lady who was stabbed"

So do I. Lets not tug too hard at the heart strings!

Lickspittle: "..but feel that people like the Metric Martyrs are causing animosity.."

No. It's the council stupid.

Lickspittle: "..[parking attendants] are members of the community who are usually very helpful to visitors to a city.."

So are the people they issue [potentially illegally] the parking tickets to. But in any case, being helpful to visitors is not a parking attendants job.

Lickspittle: "..are a visible presence who can help reduce crimes such as car and house break-ins, tax disc evasions and so on."

Is this the new council policy? Saving costs on police manpower by making parking attendants carry out the role of the police?

Perhaps the council should just employ more police in the first place?

Lickspittle: "This type of work is all part of the day-to-day unmentioned duties of a parking attendant,..."

Is it in the parking attendants terms and conditions? If so, I hope they are getting paid for all this huminatarian work.

Or, is the council exploiting its own employees in the same way it is exploiting the road user?

PA's helping the public !!!!
Telling visitors where to find places. What F********ing visitors. They've all buggered off to Newcastle.
No-one goes to Sunderland anymore. Why should they?
I mean it has nothing in it that any other city has in the way of shops etc but it's the most diabolically patrolled place on earthe with the exception of the City of Westminster.

Weblogger, I think you're missing the point! There HAS to be some sort of parking regime within the city. It would be chaos without it. All Mr Heron has pointed out is the fact that it was introduced ILLEGALLY. Without abiding by the law! It's also a case of gross maladministration by the council.
It may well be just the tip of the iceberg. What else have they introduced or allowed to happen without checking the legallities of?
Bystander.
